Lash Extensions FAQ

Do I need to prep before my appointment?

Prior to your appointment, try your best to arrive without any eye makeup, do not curl your lashes or wear mascara the day before and the day of your appointment. It will help with keeping any debris on the lashes, so that extensions placed will last longer.

Will it ruin or cause my natural lashes to fall out?

Based on the growth cycle of eyelashes, when applying lashes, lash stylists are trained to look for adult lashes to attach the individual synthetic lashes. Young (baby) lashes are left to allow them to fully develop and when it comes times to re-lash, we have new strong lashes to bond to. Lash extensions will not cause your natural eyelashes to fall out. Remember that your natural lashes have their own life cycle of falling and growing – like the hair found elsewhere on your body. It's hard to notice small lashes falling out, but when attached to a thicker, longer lash they become much more noticeable! Once the extensions are removed, your own eyes may appear smaller, your natural lashes, shorter and sparser because you've been accustomed to a full set of longer, thicker lashes.

How long does it take to apply lash extensions?

Lash extensions are applied while you are lying down with your eyes closed on a comfortable spa bed in a serene setting. This usually takes about 1.5 hours for a full set of lashes, but also depends on the set of lashes you decide to get. After prepping your lashes, your bottom lashes are protected with a gel eye pad, lash extensions are then applied 1-to-1 with medical grade adhesive. It is a relaxing, non-invasive treatment and most of our clients take the time to catch up on their beauty sleep!

How long will my new lashes last?

Depending on the set you received, your new lashes will last up to 6 weeks if without a touch up. It will also depend on your skincare routine and your own natural lash life cycle. To maintain the full look of your lashes, it will require you to maintain refills every 2-3 weeks.

How often should I be coming in for lash refills?

We recommend getting refills every 2 to 4 weeks. If you wait too long your extensions will fall out and you will require a full set. Factors such as exposure to humidity, steam or touching your eyes a lot may cause the extensions to fall quicker. Refills can take from 45 - 60 minutes, depending on the state of your remaining lashes. A good sign of when you need a refill is when your extensions are 50%-60% gone.

Can I apply mascara to my lash extensions?

Yes, however you must only apply water-based mascara. Do not use WATER-PROOF MASCARA. Waterproof mascara and any type of oil-based mascara dissolves the bonding agent of the extensions and causes them to fall out sooner. Also, take care in washing off all eye makeup. Only use a water-based eye makeup remover.

Can I swim, shower or exercise while wearing lash extensions?

Yes. The bonding agent we use is waterproof and allows you to shower, swim, exercise. However, we recommend that you DO NOT WASH your eye area for at least 24 hours after the initial eyelash extension application. This allows the bonding agent to fully dry and prolong the life of your extensions.

How do I take care of my new lash extensions?

  • Do not get your lashes wet for at least 24 hours after application
  • Do not go tanning for 24 hours after application
  • Use an oil-free eye makeup remover
  • Try not to run water directly on your lashes
  • Do not rub, pick or pull your eyes
  • If using mascara, use water-based formulas
  • When applying mascara avoiding the root area.
  • Avoid using an eyelash curler
  • Try to avoid exposure to heat, steam, sauna and friction
  • Receiving chemical treatments, such as eyelash tinting or perming
  • Receiving irritating eye area treatments, such as strong chemical peels, skin re-surfacing procedures, eyebrow waxing or laser treatments

Phi Brow Microblading FAQ

What is microblading?

It's a two sessions procedure in your eyebrows. The intention is to fill in gaps, give more volume or correct small asymmetries.

With a hand tool, ink and a blade, we plan and develop a UNIQUE, exclusive sequence of strokes that only your eyebrow will have, based off of your face shape and your current natural eyebrows. The procedure is to imitate your natural hair, giving you fuller brows.

What is done in the first microblading session?

Images will be taken, a thorough step by step explanation of the procedure will be discussed, prepping brows, mapping and discussing shape with you. Procedure is then started.

What is done in the second session?

Images will be taken to check on final look. We will check on the healing and touch up on areas needed.

Is it a tattoo?

No, we have 5 layers of skin. Microblading is done on the first, while tattooing is done on through all 5 layers.

Can I choose my shape or color?

We will discuss your expectations and preferences. We will map according to your preference, respecting your natural shape, your features and bone structure. We will match the color to your exact color of your natural eyebrows.

Does it hurt? Do you use numb cream?

The procedure is done on the first layer of skin. We have no nerves in this area. And the numb cream can affect pigment retention. From 0 to 10, my clients report that the pain is 2.

What does the microblading service include?

Includes 2 sessions. The second is made after 30 days.

And a post-procedure balm, to use at aftercare.

Will I see the result right away?

The final result appears after 30 days of skin healing. The final result is after 30 days of the second session.

Do I need an in-person consultation?

It is not necessary. We'll decide everything together and you can look over the contraindications on the website. If there are still information that you are unclear on, please call in to discuss. A scheduled consultation would require a $100 deposit which would go towards the brow appointment.

What is done in consultations?

Answer questions, talk about your case and make a simulation of how the final result would look with a pencil.

Another artist did my brows, can you work over them?

If you have any eyebrow procedure it is necessary to submit a photo for pre-assessment.

The technique performed is very natural and it has no power of correction or coverage of old procedures.

How often do I come for maintenance? How long does it last?

From 6 to 24 months. Skin type and lifestyle can impact your ink retention and the lifespan of the cosmetic tattoo. Individuals will vary in ink retention, and pigment rejection is possible.

What will it look like in a few years?

It gets lighter until it disappears completely.

Will it change color?

Not with this technique.

How long does the appointment take?

First session may take 2 hours, and the second session may take 1 hour.

Is the material used disposable?

How to Apply Magnetic Lashes

Step 1: Preparation

  • Make sure your eyelids are clean and oil free.
  • If needed, trim your magnetic lashes into segment pieces for it to fit your eye frame.
  • If you wish to wear mascara, apply them on your natural lashes prior to putting on magnetic lashes to help prolong your wears. If applying mascara on magnetic lashes, please use an oil free mascara.

Step 2: Liner Application

  • Shake your Magnetic Eyeliner well before use.
  • Wipe excess eyeliner from the applicator.
  • Apply a layer of magnetic eyeliner to your lash line and allow it to dry completely. Make sure to apply an even coat across the entire area where the lashes will sit. If you have hooded eyes it is best to close your eyes during the drying process.
  • Dry test: Pat your finger on your eye line to see if any eyeliner comes off.

Step 3: Lash Application

  • Apply the lashes by starting with the inner corners then lightly pressing along the lash line securing the magnets in place. Adjust, as necessary. Pinch and press down near the roots of the lashes to set them.
  • Do not use an oil-based mascara on your false eyelashes. We also recommend not using a waterproof or heavy mascara as this will seriously affect the longevity of the lashes.

Step 4: Removal

  • When removing, detach your false lashes slowly from the outer corners. Use our eye makeup remover to remove magnetic liner from the lids. Use a cotton bud with a rolling motion to wipe up any remnants of the eyeliner.
  • After each use clean the magnets on your false lashes with an oil-free cleanser and cotton bud. Remove any excess liner from the magnets with an oil free cleanser and a cotton bud. Place lashes back into the tray to maintain lash shape.
  • Cat Eye

Shortest lashes from inner corner with gradual increase in length until the longest lashes are on the outer corner.

  • Doll Eye

Shorter lashes on the inner and outer corners and longest lashes are focused in the centre of the eye

  • Soft Cat Eye

Shortest lashes from inner corner with gradual increase in length until 3/4 of the eye line and then the lashes taper back down in length.
